On September 9, 2017, Shane English School Taiwan put on a carnival to celebrate Shane English School and Saxoncourt’s 40th anniversary. It was held at 1914 Huashan Creative Park, one of Taipei’s premier art communities and just a stone’s throw from Saxoncourt Head Office.
The event kicked off with a speech from Shane Lipscombe, founder of Shane English School and the Saxoncourt Group. Steven Parker of the British Chamber of Commerce in Taipei also spoke of his experiences with Shane – both the man and the company he founded. And then the school presented a cheque for 100,000NTD (£ ) donation to Taiwan Hope Association for Children and Juvenile (社團法人台灣兒童少年希望協會).
Throughout the day, there were other activities, including presentations celebrating British culture on the main stage, a speech contest, a fun spelling bee, and pop-up stalls selling artisanal crafts and snacks.
We were also joined by the Mighty Shane Football Club. Might Shane FC’s players gave onlookers demonstrations of their skills on the pitch. They also invited some of the younger attendees to join them for a friendly match.
For the dramatically inclined, we set up a small stage for students to try their hands at being a Shakespearian thespian. Led by some of our Shane English School teachers, students got to act out scenes from famous plays. Some even braved the heat to dress in traditional Elizabethan costumes for their roles.
All in all, it was a wonderful day in the park for students, parents, teachers, and staff. We were glad to see all our friends come out for the carnival, and we’re glad to have met lots of new friends as well. Everyone worked incredibly hard and pulled off a fantastic event that we will all remember for a long time to come.
